How to Lead When Everyone Is Drained
It’s tough to lead when you’re feeling exhausted. When your team is, too, it can be even tougher. But, it’s important to remember that as a leader, you set the tone for your team. If you’re feeling exhausted, chances are good that they are, too.
Here are a few tips for leading when you’re both exhausted:
1. Communicate openly and honestly.
When you’re feeling exhausted, it’s important to communicate that to your team. Let them know what you’re feeling and why. This will help them understand and empathize with you, and it will also help them feel like they can be open and honest with you, too.
2. Be understanding and flexible.
Remember that when your team is exhausted, they may not be able to give 100%. Be understanding of this and be flexible in your expectations. Maybe you need to adjust deadlines or give people the option to work from home.
3. Encourage self-care.
It’s important to encourage your team to take care of themselves when they’re feeling exhausted. This may mean taking a mental health day or getting some extra sleep. Whatever it is, let them know that it’s okay to take care of themselves.
4. Lead by example.
Finally, remember that as a leader, you must lead by example. If you’re exhausted, ensure you’re taking care of yourself, too. This will show your team that you’re in this together and that you’re committed to taking care of yourself and them.
